Holbrook guided walk, Sunday 30 Oct

Twenty four group members ignored the end of BST, joining in the guided walk at Holbrook Bay on Sunday 30th October. Led by Stephen Marginson, they were treated to a good selection of birds that included great views of a short eared owl, whose presence certainly upset a local crow. A welcome grey wagtail was seen at the sewage treatment plant and a few members managed to tick kingfisher at the sluice.

RSPB Feed The Birds Day, Needham Market, Saturday 29 Oct

Group members were busy at the Feed the Birds Day event on Saturday 29th October. Although the weather was not warm and sunny as had been experienced during the lead up to the weekend, the day remained dry. As well as offering two guided walks, members managed to distribute lots of information about this event and the work of the RSPB and the Ipswich Local group. A big thank you to the committee and members participating.

September

30th Anniversary Barbecue, Minsmere, Saturday 17th Sept

The members had excellent weather for the groups 30th Anniversary celebration lunch held at Minsmere on Saturday 17th September.

The morning walk, kindly lead by Adam Rowland, RSPB Minsmere Reserve Manager, ensured participating members had a substantial tick list by the time they returned for the BBQ. Following lunch the group were treated to excellent views of an osprey enjoying a meal caught in front of the Island Mere hide and an aerial dogfight with local marsh harriers. A big thank you to Adam, Minsmere and the groups committee for making the event such a success.

Long service volunteer awards

Long service volunteer awards were presented to Tony & Rosemary Milner (25 yr avocet pins) and Mick & Judy Cook (10 yr puffin pins) by Adam Rowland.

The Group celebrated its 30'th anniversary in style!
