Wolves Wood

near Hadleigh TM054439 just off the A1071

Wolves Wood offers a peaceful; woodland walk throughout the year. A morning visit in the spring or early summer is the prime time to enjoy the rich birdsong that brings the reserve to life. Nightingales, the summer-visiting warblers and the resident breeding birds are in full song staking their claims to a territory and endeavouring to attract a mate. Pride of place goes to the nightingales that, although often remaining hidden in dense vegetation, 'reveal' themselves with a wondrous mix of powerful, liquid notes.

In the tranquility of mid-summer, the rides teem with a host of butterflies and dragonflies. With the onset of winter, those who are patient may encounter roe deer or muntjacs, whilst roving flocks of tits, goldcrests and finches call in the trees overhead.
